I grew up in New York City and have lived in London, Istanbul, and Los Angeles. I graduated from Sarah Lawrence College for undergraduate studies, and Columbia University for Graduate School. I received my teaching credential in 2002. I have taught writing at LAUSD, the University of Southern California, Cal State LA, The University of the West, and in the certificated program at UCLA. Currently, I am a technical writer at the Viterbi School of Engineering at USC.
As a professor and writing consultant for almost 20 years, my job has been to help individuals communicate effectively so they can achieve their academic and/or career goals. Whether it be a college application essay, a dissertation, or a grant proposal, the end result will be a piece of writing done with clarity, intelligence, and authenticity.
Deirdre Higgins is an amazing editor! I needed editing for my PhD dissertation and Deirdre came recommended to me from a friend at USC. She meticulously went over each page of my dissertation to make sure grammar, syntax, organization, and punctuation were accurate. She was highly professional, easy to communicate with, and she got the corrections back to me quickly. Thanks, Deirdre.

Deirdre is a fantastic writing tutor. She is able to expertly guide the creative process of writing to reflect her student's unique thoughts and emotions so that the end result is an original piece of work. At the same time, she's incredibly diligent about teaching and reinforcing grammar rules. She instills confidence and lifelong writing skills. My daughter loves working with Deirdre and has improved tremendously in high school English under her tutelage.

Writing dozens of college application essays in a short period of time was an incredibly difficult task for my son, but Deirdre helped him craft each idea into an interesting and compelling story. After reading each draft, she would articulate ways for him to improve the essays and how to infuse them with his passion, his struggle, and his pride. And in the end, his character shone through, resulting in acceptances from UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, and Harvey Mudd College.
