About college application essays

I grew up in New York City and have lived in London, Istanbul, and Los Angeles.  I graduated from Sarah Lawrence College for undergraduate studies, and Columbia University for Graduate School.  I received my teaching credential in 2002.  I have taught writing at the Los Angeles Unified School District, the University of Southern California, Cal State LA, The University of the West, and in the certificated program at UCLA.  I have been a technical writer at USC's Viterbi School of Engineering, as well as a book editor.  I am currently a copy editor & writer at NORC at the University of Chicago.

As an educator and writing consultant for over 20 years, I understand the problems students encounter when writing---  they have something in their head but they have difficulty putting it into words that are clear and concise, or they  meander without getting to the point. They often use incorrect language or make grammatical errors.  I have seen it all.  My job has always been to give the students the necessary skills so they can become excellent communicators, not just during their academic years, but for life. I help with writing college application essays and  statement of purpose essays, as well as  dissertation editing.
